Bringing together more than 250 diplomats and officials dealing with economic, trade, finance, science, innovation and business promotion, the AERL builds bridges and opens doors that would be much harder for members to access if they were working alone.
The AERL is proud to provide London’s diplomatic community a valued platform for dialogue between high-level representatives of industry, policy-makers, academia and government. Emphasizing the essential ‘human dimension’ in diplomacy, the association offers prime networking opportunities which are more important than ever in finding ways to connect and share ideas with the current Covid-19 restrictions in place.
Pre-pandemic, the AERL organised around 10-12 exclusive presentations, tours and visits per year. The programme has evolved into a series of high-level webinars during the Covid-19 crisis. Recent highlights have included virtual Town Hall meetings with Lord Bilimoria, President of the Confederation of British Industry (May 2021), the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham (February 2021), a high-level Panel Discussion on Brexit and Trade (December 2020), and a webinar with Kwasi Kwarteng MP, then Minister at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (October 2020).
