The AERL, together with TheCityUK, is pleased to invite you to a webinar followed by a Q&A session on the recently published report “Key Facts about the UK as an International Financial Centre 2024”
, presented by its Chief Economist, Anjalika Bardalai. In spring of 2025, the government will publish its Industrial and Trade Strategies
– both of which are at the heart of its ‘Growth Mission’. Together with Stephen Booth, International Strategy Director at TheCityUK, and his colleague Philip Jones, Senior Manager, Policy, we will discuss the industry demands, implications and some of the opportunities/challenges for the financial and professional services industry. Confirmed speakers include:
– Anjalika Bardalai, Chief Economist and Director of Economic Research at TheCityUK. Prior to joining TheCityUK in 2014, she spent 12 years with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in the company’s New York and London offices, holding a number of different roles, including head of the EIU’s flagship Country Reports series. She also worked for the consultancy Eurasia Group, advising financial-markets clients on economic and political risk.
– Stephen Booth, International Strategy Director at TheCityUK. He joined TheCityUK in 2023 and manages the implementation of the International Strategy, working with colleagues on cross-cutting trade and investment issues. He previously worked in Westminster think tanks, as Co-Director of Open Europe, and at Policy Exchange.
– Philip Jones, Senior Manager, Policy at TheCityUK. He previously worked as Head of Policy at TheCityUK from 2013 to 2022. Prior to working for TheCityUK, he also held the position of Vice-President of Financial Services at Scottish Development International, and has also worked at Scottish Enterprise.
TheCityUK is the industry-led body representing UK-based financial and related professional services. It champions and supports the success of the ecosystem, and thereby its members, promoting policies in the UK, across Europe and internationally that drive competitiveness, support job creation and ensure long-term economic growth. The industry contributes over 10% of the UK’s total economic output and employs more than 2.3 million people, with two thirds of these jobs outside London. It is the largest tax payer and the biggest exporting industry, and generates a trade surplus exceeding that of all other net exporting industries combined. It also makes a real difference to people in their daily lives, helping them save for the future, buy a home, invest in a business and protect and manage risk.
